Jacob Sheep Junior Ewes/First Fresheners

This page is dedicated to the younger ewes in our flock.

Junior ewes are defined as ewes that have not been bred, normally ewe lambs to yearlings.

First fresheners are the ewes that this is the first time they have been bred.

We normally do not breed our ewes until they are at least a year old.  Some first fresheners may be older due to how closely related they are to the current herdsire.  Example,  we will not breed brothers and sisters, fathers to daughters, sons to mothers.

All of the ewes trace back to the ewes of Fine Fettle Farm, which maintains a closed flock of ewes descended from the Lasseau flock.

As stated on our Jacob sheep for sale page, most of these ewes are available for purchase.  Prices have been assigned to the ewes according to our stated pricing policy on our for sale page.  Ewes marked RETAINED are not for sale.  Ewes marked RESERVED have been chosen for purchase and a deposit received.

Delilah is one of those ewes with a unique personality--she is one of those who is scared of her own shadow and anything that walks on two legs.  She is affectionately known as "Hellspawn" at shearing time--just will not stand even confined to a shearing stand. But other than that, she is a gorgeous ewe.  Her fleece is long and open without any quilting. her markings are just exquisite if a little small on the eyepatches. She is out of one of our favorite ewes, who does not show this flighty-ness (Delilah gets it from her father, who was also a little flighty).  We are hoping for some nice lambs out of her in 2012.  Confirmed bred by JM Farm Benjamin, lambed 3/15/2012--a ram lamb, JM Farm Benjamin's Daemon.  Available for $250 +$100 for her ram lamb before weaning or $250 after lamb is weaned.

Jamisen is the first Jacob born on the farm with more than 4 horns.  She is a 5 horn with the top left horn fused.  She has a medium length fleece that is nice and dense with no quilting or freckling. Her markings are just wonderful.  We are hoping for some beautiful lambs from pairing her with Unzicker Mel for 2012. Confirmed bred to Unzicker Mel, lambed March 3, 2012--a beautiful ewe lamb, JM Farm Mel's Jada. RETAINED

Dora came to us with her mother, Maple Hill Nora, and aunt, Maple Hill Lia.  She carries her breeder's name as prefix.  She is a darling little ewe.  She likes to hide behind the other sheep and llamas, so this photo is a rare one.  She is 4 horned with a long, open fleece and pretty markings.  We are looking forward to any lambs in 2012. Abigail is a wonderfully marked ewe with a very wide 2 horned head.  She has started to show some freckling with the first shearing. Other than the slightest freckling, she has a wonderful fleece. She has a very Jacob personality, sort of standoffish and respectful. We are working to correct the freckling by breeding her to a ram with fewer leg markings and no freckling in his fleece.  Confirmed bred to Unzicker Mel, lambed 3/12/2012 with one ram lamb, JM Farm Mel's Adam.  Available for  $250 + $100 for JM Farm Mel's Adam, or $250 after lamb is weaned.

Elizabeth is a gorgeous ewe.  There is no quilting or freckling in her fleece, which is a lovely dense coat with medium staple.  Her horns are a little close, but will not cause her any trouble. She should give us some wonderful lambs in the spring of 2012.  Placed 5th out of 12 at the first Eastern Jacob Show at the 2011 Garden State Sheep Breeders Festival. Confirmed bred to Unzicker Mel. Lambed March 3, 2012--set of twin ewes. SOLD

Jessica has it all--the markings, the coloring, the horn set, and the fleece.  She is one FINE ewe.  She spent the summer at Scotland by the Yard with 3 other ewes and their mothers, so she is not the friendliest.  We look forward to seeing lambs in 2013. RETAINED

Hope is a pretty little Jacob ewe with a sweet disposition.  She has a wonderful set of horns and very nice markings.  Her one fault is her fleece, it is a little inconsistent from front to back.  We are hoping that the fleece will improve with better nutrition after the first shearing.  She will be bred to a ram with exceptional fleece in 2012. Available for $200.
